You’re Interested In Being A Dog/Puppy Foster Home?

Yay! Thank you for interest and for caring about the animals.

Foster parents provide short and long-term care for animals in their homes. By offering your time, love and attention, you help a deserving pooch prepare for a great life in a loving home. You also help keep shelter space open so we can save even more animals.

Wait,  why are these dogs in foster homes?

 - Some dogs experience stress in the shelter environment and having a home option for them is invaluable.

 - Very young pups needing to get older or put on weight before being made available for adoption.

 - Injured animals recover better in home situations (we provide all medical care, of course!)

 - Moms and babies need a quiet, controlled environment while the pups grow up and are weaned.

 - Shy dogs who need a little extra TLC

What do I need to do to be a foster parent?

 - Attend our Foster Care Orientation and meet the Foster Care team

 - Be able to transport your foster pet to vet appointments and prospective adoption meets at the shelter.

 - Have a flexible schedule to allow time for routine veterinary exams and vaccinations, as well as any emergencies that may occur.

 - Have enough time to socialize and care for your foster pets.

 - Be able to commit to having your foster until they get adopted. Sometimes it take days, sometimes months.

 - Be able to commit to bringing your foster dog to our Saturday adoption showcase- the more people they meet, the more chances they have at adoption!

 - Be at least 18 years old.

Cool! How Do I Become A Foster Parent?

 1. Submit a canine foster home application online – it's right here.

 2. Folks from our Rescue and Foster Team will call you to schedule an orientation.

 3. Attend a foster orientation. We’ll teach the ins and outs of fostering and prepare you for your first foster dog. You’ll get a foster manual to take home which includes all the info you’ll need on basic care, medical appointments, emergency protocol, and a contact list.

 4. When a dog needing foster comes in, we'll call you.

Come pick up your foster pooch and supplies. Food, medicine, beds - we provide the whole shebang. At this time you’ll also get a foster parent mentor assigned to you that will be your go-to for any basic questions that come up.

So Walk Me Through The Whole Process One Time...

Once a dog or pup needing foster comes in, we start contacting homes to see who is available. If you are, we’ll ask you to come in and meet the pooch and pick them up. If you currently have a dog, you’ll bring your dog down for a doggie date to see if they will be friends. You’ll be given food and supplies for your foster pet at the time. If any medical follow up is necessary, we’ll try and set that up. Our foster department will be in contact with you to check in, schedule needed appointments and set up viewings for prospective adopters to meet your foster dog. We will ask you to come to adoption events to help market them.  If you run out of food or supplies, you can come in and pick up more. We’ll also ask for additional details about your foster pet to help market them and find them a great home.

Ready? Let’s get to that application now.
