Have you been seeing cats in your neighborhood that do not seem to belong to anyone? These cats are called Community Cats and they have a home they love- the outdoors! Community Cats are very much like wildlife- they are able to thrive on their own and don't enjoy human companionship. In fact, they do so well in most cases that they are very prolific breeders. Humane Society Silicon Valley is here to help keep Community Cats from continuing the breeding cycle through a proven and humane cat population control method called Trap-Neuter-Return or TNR.
Trapping cats and bringing them to HSSV to be spayed or neutered means they can no longer have kittens and unwanted behaviors such as yowling, fighting and spraying are dramatically reduced. And unlike traditional "trap and kill" practices, by returning spayed and neutered cats back to their outdoor home keeps new unspayed/unneutered cats from moving in and repopulating the neighborhood.
All cats found in Sunnyvale can be brought to HSSV free of charge and we will try our best to find the cat's owner. If no owner is found, cats are medically and behaviorally evaluated, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested, and microchipped. Friendly cats will be placed up for adoption, and Community Cats who aren't suitable as companion pets will be released back to their outdoor home with an ear notch to easily identify them as a spayed/neutered Community Cat.
If Community Cats are hanging around your house or yard and you don't want them there, we can help with that too! HSSV offers free, month long rentals of popular cat deterrents that are sure to keep your yard cat-free. We know not everyone loves Community Cats so we're here to offer solutions to common cat complaints, just give us a call at (408)262-2133 x110 for advice.
