Become a Volunteer

If you are under 18 years old, visit our Humane Education page for volunteer opportunities for you.

If you are over 18 years old please follow the instructions below.

Please note that we do not provide short term volunteer service, court ordered community service or restitution.

Thank you for considering volunteering your time to Humane Society Silicon Valley.
We would love you to join the wonderful group of volunteers who help make Humane Society Silicon Valley the Best Place to Adopt a Pet.

All volunteer positions require you be willing to make a commitment of 8 hours per month for a minimum of one year along with all of the required trainings.

Applying to becoming an HSSV volunteer is easy:

  1. Attend “Experience Humane Society Silicon Valley - Meet, Greet, and Tour” This is a behind the scenes tour of the shelter and informational meeting to give you details about our past and what the future holds for HSSV!  Please note that you must sign up for Experience Humane Society Silicon Valley - Meet, Greet, and Tour on our online calendar.

  2. Once you have attended Experience Humane Society Silicon Valley - Meet, Greet, and Tour you will receive an email with a link to the online HSSV volunteer application.

  3. Once we receive your application it will be reviewed. If your interest and availability match our current need you will be notified via email. This email will direct you to an online calendar where you can register for an upcoming General Volunteer Orientation.

Please Note: You must be 18 years or older to become a volunteer and be ready to commit to 8-10 hours per month for a minimum of one year. There is a $40 materials fee. This fee allows us to provide your volunteer t-shirt, badge, lanyard, and general printed materials without taking any money away from the support of the animals in our care.
